“I don’t know how you do it...”

It was a Friday afternoon when I got a call from a client I’d worked with on a few projects.

She needed urgent help.

Her company was getting ready to release their annual report, but the CEOs message wasn’t sitting right. She knew it needed work, and she knew there’d been too many cooks spoiling the broth.

The hard part was, they needed to send it for approval in 2 hours. Could I help?

“Sire,” I said, “Why not?”

Overjoyed, she sent me the draft, and an hour later, I sent it back.

Then I ran for my ferry for an appointment.

Just as I’m running through the ticket gates, my client calls me again. I dash onto the boat and sit down before I answer. I assume she wants to talk over the message.

I was half right. Here’s what she actually said:

“I don’t know how you do it, but you just know how to get into any topic and open it up.”

You know what? I’ll take it.
Since I come from Australia, where we have a culture of suspicion around speechwriting and ghostwriting in general, I often get asked why anybody would hire a speechwriter.

My client gave me the best answer I’ve ever been able to find:

Because you know your message. And I know how to open it up to the world.

Talk soon,

Alexander

P.S. If you want my help opening up your message, hit reply and let’s talk.
